Bermuda Government is robbing Belco!!!
The Bermuda Government is currently charging Belco 32 million for fuel tax. Belco is only gonna bring in 20 millimi.
The government hasn't been given authority to make unfair tax regulations.
It appears that, because no one is properly policing the government; they have financial flexibility to take risks with Belco's hard-earned money, with little to no, penalty.
Because Belco is not breaking even, the share holders are somewhat forced to make a difficult decision, to make some employees redundant, to cut costs.
It is recommended that, government cut fuel tax costs for Belco by: 3/4 or 75%.
It seems more fair, to tax the earnings, heavier than the product. Because buying fuel has not made you any immediate money, but; taxing what is earned instead, is much more fair and realistic. This is to ensure that the company stays alive. Instead of just, pickingpic the big fish, whenever the island is in trouble.
We've all heard stories of government workers knocking off early and getting paid the whole day, where does that money come from?
Tax the earnings, not the product.
Is this tax paying for the missing 18 million dollars, airport, island debt?
